Case Study: Itzy Ritzy, “Western Collection”

Client

Itzy Ritzy makes the world’s most fashionable diaper bags, as well as tons of other cool products for Moms and their babies. We’ve collaborated with them on a wide variety of projects from short product videos, to sizzle reels, studio shoots, and more.

This time, the Itzy Ritzy team was looking to do a photoshoot that would encapsulate a country vibe to launch their new collection of diaper bags. Something straddling Nashville and Wyoming.

Vibe: Young, fun, Americana, romantic, laid-back, Western spirit. Sexy cowboy/bachelorette, etc. More for mom, less for baby.

Location

The first thing the Itzy Ritzy team wanted to know was are there even locations near Chicago that could pass for a Western aesthetic. They considered traveling for the shoot, but the budget was prohibitive.

We were confident we could pull it off. We prepared a list of locations that would check the boxes for them and give them some options — everything from honky-tonk bars to farms to on-theme airBNB’s. In the end, they chose our favorite, a farm and wedding venue a few hours outside Chicago.

Pre-Production

With the location secured, we then made a plan that would use our time and resources on the shoot day as efficiently as possible.

Each part of the shoot was scheduled so we could light with natural sunlight. This choice, along with the Itzy Ritzy team handling wardrobe, art, and logistics like lunch, allowed Jump Point to keep the crew size to one! Just the photographer.

Production

We worked with the Itzy Ritzy team to plan the day very tightly. It’s something we do on every project, but it was especially important here with the sun doing the lighting for us, tight schedules for the models, multiple products to feature, and an extensive shotlist.

We knew the end of the day would give us the best direct sunlight to work with, so we planned our major outdoor setups to use that late afternoon/early evening light. Around midday we planned for setups under tree cover, and indoors where the high angle of the sun wouldn’t ruin our shots.

This strategy worked out wonderfully. It helped make the most of the great natural light the location did have, at the time of day that worked best for each location on the property. Ultimately, that good planning meant more variety and better quality work for the client.
